NYSEF’s Tate Frantz To Fly At FIS Ski Flying World Championships In Austria, Jan. 25-28
LAKE PLACID, NY (January 17, 2024) – The New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) will be tuning into the FIS Ski Flying World Championships in Kulm Bad Mitterndorf/Tauplitz, Austria January 25-28 to watch Tate Frantz represent NYSEF as a member of the U.S. Ski Fly Jumping Team.
“I’m super excited to see Tate ski fly,” said NYSEF Head Ski Jumping Coach Colin Delaney. “He has been making steady improvements on the World Cup over the last month and it will be awesome to see him bring this form to one of the biggest hills in the world.”
Frantz grew up in the NYSEF program, training as a ski jumper at the Olympic Jumping Complex in Lake Placid. This is his first nomination to the U.S. FIS Ski Flying World Championship team.
“Tate has a chance to be the first athlete from NYSEF to fly over 200 meters,” Delaney said.
The FIS Ski Flying World Championships are held every two years on hills much larger than typical ski jumping hills. The K-point is set between 185 and 200 meters. A field of 40 jumpers is judged on four jumps with eliminations after each jump—the competitor with the most combined points after all four jumps win the title of World Champion.
“There is nothing more exhilarating than the Ski Flying World Championships,” said USA Nordic CEO Adam Provost in a press release from USA Nordic. “I know the team is excited about the opportunity and I’m excited to watch them compete against the best in the world.”
